Fantastic quality; there is an option for times when you need quiet play without the hammer
This is a beautifully crafted toy. It's high quality and such fun for little ones. I ordered it for our granddaughter as a fun new toy. She has a new baby brother due to arrive soon, and I thought it would be nice for her to have something special. I was incredibly pleased when I saw the toy. I like that the pegs can easily be pushed through by the child by hand. This gives an option for playing with the toy during the times when you need it to be quiet time without the wooden hammer (such as when a baby sibling is napping or if you choose to take the toy to play with quietly during church or synagogue). The wood is very smooth and the colors are so calming. And everything is top notch quality. I would supervise little ones with the small hammer that comes with it. Not only can it be used to bang on items, but unfortunately I've seen instances when little ones have poked eyes with the long handles of similar types of hammers or gagged themselves with them. That's nothing against this particular brand of toy, it's just a reminder to supervise with this type of toy. The one thing I do want to mention is that this arrived in its original packaging. So the shipping label was on it. Amazon didn't give an option for me to place it in a different box. So if you plan to gift this item, you'll want to be aware of that. Perhaps Amazon will offer you the option though or maybe you should opt to have it sent to your home with giftwrapping, even if you decide to re-wrap it. That way it will at least be sent in a different box. Overall, I'm very pleased with this toy and feel it's a good value.

Very Good Quality
Good quality, I feel fine with little mouths gnawing on this. It works well, it's really cute, and $20 is a completely fair price. Makes a fantastic gift for ages 6-18 months.

Great for fine motor and hand-eye coordination!
The Pearhead Montessori Hammer Bench has been a huge hit with my toddler! It’s the perfect interactive toy for developing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. My little one loves hammering the colorful pegs down and then watching them pop back up, which keeps them engaged for long periods. Needs Better Quality Control
This is a nice take on a classic toy. Most of the parts feel well made, however the particular piece of wood used for the deck should have been rejected. There's a large check in the wood that goes half way thru the thickness. It looks like a repair was attempted with wood filler but abandoned. A defect like this on a toy meant to be struck with a hammer could cause it to split entirely. The wood filler could chip out too creating a chocking hazard. Shame on you Pearlhead!

“Tap tap tap—totally saved my daughter from boredom!”
The media could not be loaded. ????Oh, there are 8 round, colorful wooden pegs on this hammer bench that can be pounded from both sides, and they fit the holes just right—neither too loose nor too tight. I often play with my daughter, but she likes pressing the pegs by hand, so the hammer’s unused for now. It has a simple build, no harsh smell, and no sharp edges. It’s more fun than cute plush dolls and great for her fine motor skills. But the hammer lacks a noise pad, and the handle has no marker. The details aren’t great, so I’m giving it 4 stars.

Cute little hammer bench from a reputable brand and non-toxic paint
This is a well made little hammer bench. The wood feels solid, the edges are smooth, and the mallet is the right size for small hands. Beyond that, the pegs are really cute pastel colors. It's also important for many parents that baby toys come from a reputable brand. The non-toxic paint, and the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification on the wood sourcing is good look. For those reasons, I think would would be a win for a 1st birthday party gift. Maybe this is obvious, but it is a noisier toy when the hammer comes out, so I’d save it for awake hours. My little niece was rocking and rolling with it! I would supervise, since any wooden hammer can turn into a stick in the wrong moment around siblings. Overall it is a simple, engaging toy for hand eye coordination and motor skill practice.
