This album and two others of Dussek's piano sonatas played by Frederick are treasures that should be owned by every classical music lover. Dussek was a Bohemian composer and contemporary of Mozart of Beethoven. His specialty was the piano. He composed piano music that was far ahead of most other composers in his time. I see him as the first fully Romantic composer. And Marvin plays him like a Romantic. Some try to gray down Dussek by playing his music like Scarlotti or Mozart or Schubert. Marvin plays Dussek with utmost reverence. He plays him like Dussek. And that means I hang on every note. See if Dussek moves you like he does me.

The set to go for
I've bought two other sets of Dussek sonatas lately, recent recordings, but this one from the 1970s is superior. It has two companion CDs as well, and these three are the ones to go for, if you can afford them. The piano sounds better and the playing is more involved.
