Perfect for your wizards
My daughter loves both Harry Potter and crafting. This set is PERFECT. She is having so much fun with it. The kit comes with tools to make your own parchment. You get seals and stamps. She's loving it. The kit is really nice and perfect for any Potter fans. It's a great price point for the fun you get. It's a really quality set. The guide is easy to follow and will have your wizards casting spells in no time.

Brings history, science, and the Harry Potter movies and books to life
Thames and Kosmos and Harry Potter are a match made in heaven. I previously reviewed a Harry Potter magic wand kit from Thames and Kosmos. I wasn't expecting much. You've probably noticed that many movie-tie in products are terrible; companies spend so much money landing the licenses to use the IP that they make up for it by skimping on product quality. I was thrilled that the opposite was true for Thames and Kosmos. The magic wands we ended up making ourselves were much better than the ones we bought at Universal Studios for many times more the price, and we had the satisfaction of making them ourselves. Any other company would probably have put a few pieces of dyed paper into a box and called it a day. But Thames and Kosmos did so much more. This goes beyond being a "craft kit" and is an amazing STEM kit where you can actually make your own paper by taking paper from around the house, mixing it into a pulp, and making your own paper using techniques that have been used for centuries. (I noticed a rare miss in terms of their educational content: they call the process "making parchment", but parchment is typically made with animal skins. What you're actually doing is making paper and simulating the color of parchment by adding coffee or black tea to color it. But given all the science that Thames and Kosmos has taught us over the years, I'll give them a pass on this one). The kit also contains a wax-like seal just like the ones used in Harry Potter's time and centuries prior. It will also take you through the process of turning your "parchment" into Harry Potter-inspired creations like an envelope, a scroll, Tom Riddle's diary (which looks amazingly like the real thing), and even a Howler (which doesn't actually yell at you, but you use origami techniques to create another authentic-looking replica). They do skimp on some of the pieces (for example, Tom Riddle's diary uses "brass fittings" which are just paper cutouts), but overall it's a fun, educational activity that's authentic to the movies and books. While they say this is appropriate for ages 8+, I'd say the best age is around middle school, where kids' motor skills are developed and they're really getting into Harry Potter. Even as an adult I enjoyed the process. It's an amazing glimpse into history and how paper used to be made. For the price it's a phenomenal value, especially considering that it was made in Germany. It's a great way to take the kids' eyes out of their electronic devices and get them to do some hands-on learning about history and science. Very highly recommended.

Wonderful for Harry Potter Lovers
This is such a fun Harry Potter inspired craft set. I recently finished reading the entire series with my kids and now they want to hang on to the magic any way possible. This letter craft set was perfect for that. My 10 year old son absolutely loves it. The set includes everything you need to make beautiful books and letters inspired by the Harry Potter series. The kit was easy for my son to use on his own, although I did help a little. Everything comes together and functions just like it should. You can get more than one project/sitting out of the kit as well. I do wish you could order materials refills. My son would definitely want to do this again, but I don’t want to reorder the entire kit. Overall, this is a wonderful craft set that actually hits the mark when it comes to Harry Potter. It’s not gimmicky at all. The price point is great and this would make a wonderful gift for any HP lover.

Several projects in one kit
This is a fun kit, with several different activities themed around Harry Potter paper craft. There's definitely more variety than I expected when I ordered the kit: you make paper, make "wax" seals (with air-dry clay - I guess they don't want kids getting burned with wax), and do some origami and even bookbinding. There's definitely some preparation and extra equipment necessary: to make the paper, you need to soak your starting paper for hours, and you need several bowls and a hand mixer or blender. For some of the other crafts, you need paperclips, glue, gold paint, an office hole punch, and so on. None of the extra supplies are crazy to think you'd have around the house, but you may need to pick up a few things to finish everything. The instructions are very well written and clear. We haven't yet had the chance to do all the crafts, but I'll update this review if we run into any trouble. I don't expect we will - everything seems well designed and executed.

Great directions, needs more matetials.
We got this for our middle son (10) but our oldest (13) was more interested in it. It has amazingly detailed directions, I wish more products were like that. However for the price I thought the amount of product was lacking. There are only 2 sheets of each paper included. I would order again at a slightly lower price point. Our 2 older boys did enjoy it but it was shorter lived than we would have liked.
