Good concept, some questions are challenging though.
I got this book so that I could learn more about my father's life before he reaches a point where he cannot recall a lot of memories (he's currently in the early stages of dementia). I was initially a little discouraged working through it, as it wanted details about what the cost of things were, what was popular, etc when he was born. Obviously he wouldn't know the answers to these things as he was literally a newborn at the time. I could've done without that section entirely, as the only way to get real answers to those questions is by researching it....and this is supposed to be a journal that is filled with responses from my dad, not answers I had to get from a search engine. I also noticed he struggled with some of the questions about his birth (again, he would've obviously been a baby at the time these things took place). I understood the reasoning for some of these questions, as some people are told their birth stories, but for him, this section was sort of pointless. However, once we got into questions about his childhood, things got more interesting for him. Rather than give him the journal to fill out, I decided to sit and talk to him and ask him the questions from the journal. I plan to continue filling it out each time I visit him, until we work our way through to the end. Asking some of these questions brought up stories that he had shared before, but they also brought up new memories and stories I had never heard from him. It was really special getting to learn more about him as a young boy. I look forward to working through the teenager years as well. There is a bit of filler towards the back. There are a bunch of pages where you can put photos (a nice touch, but this section could've been a little smaller) and a bunch of lined pages for notes. I do think the notes pages are nice because even when I was asking my dad the very specific and pointed questions from the book, he would sometimes respond in a way that didn't answer the question. It didn't make sense to write his response with the question, since they didn't go together, but it was still interesting info that I wanted to make note of, and the note pages in the back came in handy for that. The quality of the journal is quite nice. The cover is thick and sturdy with a nice cover. The pages are bound really well and the paper is quite thick. I have no issues with bleedthrough from my gel pens. There are some graphics and illustrations throughout; everything is bold and vibrant and printed well. All in all, I'm happy with this journal and would recommend it to others. I think you'll get the most benefit of going through it with your father, but to each their own!

Good fathers day gift
There will come a time for all of us when we'll wish we could ask our parents questions about when they grew up and what things were like. This book is a way to ask those questions and preserve the answers for years to come. My grandfather and grandmother both filled out similar books, and I am so thankful I had the opportunity to read them. This book is well made and will stand the test of time, the color is nice, and for the price it's a very good option. I definitely recommend getting one for your father.
