Facinating and Insightful!
Sturdy construction. Antique look. The inner globe swivels easily. I have had this sitting on my desk next to a modern globe for several years. The old (wrong) geocentric vision is obvious. However, this instrument has numbers indicating direction, the divisions of the zodiac appear at the correct inclination and they change when rotated to match the season! The horizontal disk has numbers and cities inscribed on it. I don't understand the significance. The scientists who invented this may have been wrong, but they were not ignorant. Changed my view of the past. In fact, I am reminded of the scholar who noted, contrary to common opinion, putting the earth revolving the sun was not degrading the human condition, but elevating the earth into heaven closer to God. As quoted in ''The Scientific Revolution'', by Steven Shapin - ''In the late sixteenth century the French essayist and skeptic Michel de Montaigne (1533-92) - still accepting the Ptolemaic system - described the place where humans dwelled as "the filth and mire of the world, the worst, lowest, most lifeless part of the universe, the bottom story of the house." And even as late as 1640 an English supporter of Copernicanism recognized that a powerful current argument against heliocentrism proceeded from "the vileness of our earth, because it consists of a more sordid and base matter than any other part of the world; and therefore must be situated in the centre, and at the greatest est distance from those purer incorruptible bodies, the heavens." Fascinating! Another adjustment is my evaluation of the present due to this model. The scientists who developed this focused from this world, themselves, to the cosmos. My modern globe is clearly expressing focus on this world, ourselves. Much different. I am glad this model is in front of me every day.

Nice replica
No, it's not a working armillary but you have to spend several hundreds of dollars for that, and I just got this for my son-in-law to put among his books in his really big library. He likes it and it looks good and that's all that matters.

Solid. Not cheap stage replica. Love it.
I love it. I use it in my English class. I teach 7-12 grades and my room has a steampunk/explorer theme. Students love this little touch of Harry Potter. Very solid, classy look and feel.
