Great gift
This was a great. Itthday gift for an 11 year old boy. He opened it and for the next hour and a half he put it together and has it in his room as a night light. Great gift

Great gift and fun project
The media could not be loaded. We bought this for our kid’s white elephant gift exchange with cousins. We ended up with it and so happy because my six year old was able to follow the directions and loves the final product. It took about 45 minutes with a parent and six year old. We will be able to enjoy this for a while, and the base lights up and makes the shark move. Looks like we can easily dissemble and put the pieces back in the frame to do it again if we want to. For now it will stay in his room to enjoy the hard work!

DELICATE but fabulous! (More for 15+)
This is a very intricate model that requires PATIENCE AND DELICACY to put together. you will need two pairs of hands a times. Though the wood has a good thickness for how small this is, there are some TINY pieces that again need DELICATE handling. Box says 12yrs old, I will tell you my 17 yr old snapped the 1st piece clean in half.... it takes a few attempts to get the right balance of pressure and delicacy to put pieces together properly. BE sure to secure each piece until they are FLUSH at the outer side otherwise it will not move smoothly. There is some flexibility to making adjustment once completed but YOU MUST BE VERY CAREFUL. I thought this could be charged but it does need to be plugged in to work. (cord is USB ended) Perfect for a science project model.

Adult help may be required.
Very nice product. I am an adult who had some difficulties with assembly. I had to take apart and reassemble some sections. After starting the motor i had to glue a few pieces to keep the model from loosing pieces. Otherwise, i like the end product. Other viewers love it. It is fun.

???? A Roaringly Fun Build with Lights, Motion, and Learning!
The National Geographic Motorized Dinosaur 3D Puzzle is a fantastic hands-on activity that blends STEM learning, creativity, and prehistoric excitement. Whether you're gifting it to a dino-loving kid or building it together as a family project, this T. rex delivers on both fun and function ????????. ✅ What I loved: - No Tools Needed ????❌: The 50-piece wooden model snaps together smoothly. Assembly took about 90 minutes and the illustrated instructions were clear and beginner-friendly. - Motorized Movement ⚙️: Once mounted on the base, the T. rex gently moves as if walking—adds a dynamic touch that goes beyond typical static models. - 8 Light Modes + Dimmer ????: The base lights up with vibrant colors (solid or cycling), and the dimmer makes it perfect as a nightlight. It’s both decorative and functional. - Educational Bonus ????: The included Learning Guide shares cool dinosaur facts, making it more than just a toy—it’s a mini science lesson. - Sturdy Display Piece ????: Once built, the model holds up well and looks great on a desk or shelf. The wood pieces are lightweight but durable. ⚠️ Things to consider: - USB-Powered Only ????: The base runs via USB, so you’ll need a power source nearby. A battery option would’ve added portability. - Younger Kids May Need Help ????‍????‍????: While rated for ages 12+, younger builders will likely need adult assistance during assembly—especially with aligning the motor base. ???? Final Verdict: A well-designed, interactive puzzle that combines building, learning, and visual appeal. Great for birthdays, rainy day projects, or any kid fascinated by dinosaurs. ???? Build it, light it, and watch your T. rex come to life!

Tricky to build, probably needs adult help
The media could not be loaded. I got this because it seemed like a simple enough build for me to help my 4-year old grandson with. He was excited that he got to help on a harder wooden project, so one he could use afterward as a nightlight seemed like a great idea. Unfortunately, he was too young for this build after all. I’ve built many wooden models solo and with a child’s assistance. This just has too many steps that require holding pieces in place while attaching a second or third piece. That’s too hard for many kids under 10. There are also a couple steps that require quite a bit of pressure and precision alignment. My grandson asked me to finish the rest by myself while he took a nap. (Which I did). Overall this is a fun build and a tween would probably enjoy it, with some adult help on a few steps. The really nice thing about this build is the excellent video linked in the instructions. You can read the instructions on each step and then watch and pause the video as needed for help. There were no confusing steps thanks to the video. I was surprised that sandpaper or an emery board wasn’t provided to smooth the burrs and rough spots. So, if you give this as a gift you might want to include one or the other. There are moving parts that need to be smooth. Adding a tiny bit of candle wax to these spots will also help it move better, longer. Wax is also usually included in kits like this. There is a nice T-Rex poster on the back of the instructions and it has some interesting facts about it. It took a little more than one hour to build but the end result looks good and works well. I really like the tail movement. There are lots of color options and it can cycle through them or remain one color. The choice to make all the electronics self-contained in the sealed base was a good move. Running wires in these models is annoying. Be aware that it requires a 5-volt USB-A power source, like a phone charger. It also still uses a micro-USB not the newer USB-C plug. I would recommend this for 12 and up or a little younger with a lot of adult help.
