A newbie friendly model kit that honors a cult classic game
Something that I have an affinity for is building model kits. I used to build the basic Snap-Tite model kits Revell made. Those were easy to build, as they were mold injected, pre-colored plastic parts. Great for training. Many years later, I wanted to try my hand at model making again. This time, I wanted one of these fancier Japanese model kits. So, the first one I chose was the RVA-818 X-Lay from Taito's RayForce. Specifically, the 2P color scheme variant. I wanted a model kit by PLUM. Their model kits are known for being snap-together mold injected pre-colored pieces. Save for one or two kits, no glue is necessary. The model kit had all of the pieces in the box, so that was a good start. The instructions were also easy to understand, in spite of the language barrier. The only tools that I needed was a Tamiya brand model snip, and on specific occasions a model file for any clipped parts with stubby plastic left. The parts are all highly detailed mold injected pre-colored pieces. No glue kits required, or paint kits, either. The model kit took me two to three hours tops. The pieces also fit easily, too. They don't move around any once put in place. Overall, this is a great model kit for beginners. It is a great value on par with other model kits. It's easy to build and doesn't take up a lot of time. It's higher quality compared to its competitors. It also looks good when put on display. Strongly recommended.
