Ever been out in the rain and needed to write something important down fast? Ever left an important note on your sweetheart's car windshield only to have the rain disintegrate it? Good news, because 'Rite in the Rain' makes a great waterproof paper that will not only shed water after you've written on it, but you can actually write on it while it is raining. You would think that the coating (whatever it is) would prevent you from writing on it at all. Not so! I've written on mine with regular and mechanical pencils, regular ball-point pens Paper Mate InkJoy 700 RT Retractable Medium White Body Ballpoint Pen, Assorted Color, 4 Pack (1781586) a Fischer space pen Fisher Space Pen, Non-Reflective Military Cap-O-Matic Space Pen, Matte Black (SM4B) and felt-tip pens. They all work great on this paper. This particular one is in tactical green, which makes no difference at all unless you want your pad to look tacti-cool. They also come in tan and yellow... Inside the front cover are conversion tables, map scales, and short rulers in inches and centimeters. This model is not spiral bound, but memo-style, so it opens like a book. The pages can still be torn out, though, if you have to leave a note somewhere. While I haven't had opportunity to give this the acid test in rain-drenched Southern California, I have written notes to my wife that I put under the tap and sure enough - the water just rolled right off. (The wife, meanwhile, was unimpressed. Meh) This pad is ideal to have for outdoor pursuits: Hiking, backpacking, birding, camping, traveling... you name it. For backpackers, in addition to making a great journal it also doubles as emergency tinder to start a fire because, after all, it doesn't stay wet. I carry one in my day bag, and also always have one with me when on a day hike or backpacking. Durable and built for adverse conditions, this notebook is surprisingly useful. Highly recommended!
