Gotta Have this Engine!
While this little engine is not the best at hills, I absolutely love the whirring propeller, the ability to let it freewheel and the dazzling look of it! It pulls a decent train on flat track and at a good clip, and is so fun to watch chug along! I'd buy again in a heartbeat for a present for a train lover! It did go uphills at first, but it's battery power for that drained quick and then it could only go on level track. And the reason it could go uphills at all is that I put grippy tape on my uphill tracks, which by the way Thomas' Black Coal Hiro goes up fantastically! I have Brio tracks and accessories with a few Thomas features, and these are my first two 'other' battery engines. For those that are interested and willing to have yellow on their tracks, I bought yellow grip tape for embroidery hoops and laid it in the grooves of the track. It is a touch wider than brio grooves and takes some doing/patience but it makes hills more possible. Have yet to try it on double hill... Changed from four to five stars... even if it needs a bit of help uphill, it is my favorite train! I play the sound effects for my grandbaby when she needs a bit of light distraction.

Working so far
Our toddler is a toy challenger. This one is lasting so far, despite the abuse it has to go through :) it is compatible with the wood type tracks (we have some by Ikea and some by Melissa and Doug). It can pull quite a few wagons. Makes cool noises, goes backwards, the spinning propeller is cool. We have to replace the batteries quite often, other than that a good toy.

Perfect!
I love this little train! The prop goes around as the train moves forward or backward. The buttons on top of the train are so easy to control, even when the train is in motion. Before starting to move, the train makes noises and then continues to make train noise for about 15 seconds or so. It has good weight to it, and moves quickly on the track. Hape mastered the battery powered toy train with this one!

Total Chinese Crap!
The media could not be loaded. My toddler was given a Hape Propeller Engine as a gift last week. Right out of the box, it barely worked. The propeller only turned occasionally, and only slightly at first; then it stopped working entirely. Even worse, I had to keep knocking the engine on the floor or counter to get it to function at all. I already had thrown away the box, so I couldn't return it to Target. So I ordered a second Propeller Engine from Amazon. Upon receiving it yesterday, it suffers from the same problems. I have to keep knocking it on something hard every time to get it to start working. I've attached a video for you. There are many online reviews complaining of the same issues. These are really awful Chinese-made products. This definitely should not be considered a German (or Canadian) product; it is Chinese garbage through and through. Hape should be embarrassed. I definitely would not buy any other Hape products after seeing how little they care for quality. My toddler is not happy with Hape.

Great except for the power
This is one of the best trains for wooden tracks on the market as it has speed, sounds and a working propeller on the front of the train. The little ones love it and is their favorite. It has good weight and rubber wheels to keep traction. The biggest downside of this train is the battery usage as the two AAA are just not enough and it runs out of power within 30 min. It still makes sounds but doesn’t have enough power to get it going and just stops. Really bad design fault. Get rechargeable batteries or you will go through them faster than the propeller spins!

Fun Addition to ANY Wooden Train Set
I love the sounds and propeller movement. This is a unique train as my son has so many but none that look, sound and move like this. The train needs 2 AAA batteries. You can flip the switch under the train to disengage the gear mechanism to allow free play (push the train around the track yourself) but the propeller still moves along with the sounds when you push the forward, stop or back button. This train fits on any of the brands that make standard size wooden train track and connects to any standard size wooden train with a magnetic coupling too. Very cute and fun!

Ravie d'avoir pu me procurer cet article difficile à trouver pour mon petit fils, rapide, bien emballé ATTENTION cependant les vis du compartiments à batteries sont triangulaires !! Pour ne pas avoir de pleurs et déception devant l'impossibilité de l'ouvrir le jour où vous l'offrez .... achetez des tournevis triangulaires comme je viens de le faire sur Amazon(15$ les 6 les petits sont à la bonne dimension)

Nice little train engine to complement your existing tracks n rakes. My kid was super excited on day one and played about 2 hrs. The build is strong, the recharge batteries didn't drain yet and the sounds the train makes are very realistic . Overall i enjoyed playing as much as my kid Need to see if it withstands the test of play time

Super locomotive!
The media could not be loaded. J'ai commandé cette locomotive pour mon fils de 5 ans qui adore jouer avec son circuit de train. Cette locomotive mesure 12 cm et possède à l'avant une hélice qui tourne quand la locomotive avance ou quand elle recule. Il y a sous la locomotive un bouton qui permet de pouvoir jouer avec la locomotive manuellement, sans utiliser le moteur. Elle fonctionne très bien sur les circuits en bois Hape et Ikea. Elle est puissante même en montée. En marche arrière, la locomotive n'a pas de problème sur du plat mais elle ne passe pas les montées. cette locomotive émet différents sons quand elle avance, recule ou s'arrête. Mon fils est ravi de sa nouvelle locomotive.

Battery installation
Its impossible to put the battery on because they have to make it so complicated. Don't buy. Regret buying this for my son.
