Upgrading from plastic to foam weapons was one of our better calls. The plastic ones had started to feel more like overpriced risks than real fun - flimsy, unrealistic, and somewhat outdated. I'd always check the edges first, sanding down anything suspicious. I know, I'd make a terrible soldier - blunting my own weapons before battle - but that's Dad's Army for you. Plus, perhaps it's my own survival instinct, because I do get the sense my son doesn't hold back quite as much as I do. This foam axe, though, is in a different league. It's cleverly designed, with a fibreglass core that gives it real balance and weight - enough to make swinging it around feel satisfying, but not dangerous. It's clearly made with imaginative play in mind, and hits the sweet spot between safe and properly epic. It's got a nice heft to it without being heavy, which makes it feel just that bit more real, even when you're just having a muckabout in the garden or kitchen. It's recommended for age 12+, but it's definitely fun for grown-ups, too - whether you're suiting up for Halloween, a bit of light LARPing, or simply settling scores with a family member who ate the last biscuit. The safety is spot on - no sharp edges, nothing lurking to catch fingers. That's one of the things I appreciate most: you get all the drama, none of the danger. Now, the one thing I'd mark it down slightly on is the paint job. It's decent, but not quite as convincing as the overall design suggests. For £21.99, I think that's fair to mention - though given the quality of the build, the sheer play value, and the fact it's held up well so far, I'd still say it earns its keep. All in all, a solid upgrade from the usual plastic fare. Safe, sturdy, and just the right amount of theatrical. Highly recommended for anyone ready to lead their own low-stakes, high-fun household skirmish.
