Great train with a few easy to overlook issues
The reviews had me questioning whether to buy this train or not. I am glad I decided to buy it. This was a gift to an adult special needs family member. It has been played with for hours each day for over a month now and there have not been any issues with the engine. The cars do not have working couplers and they have come unattached from each other while circling the track. These are issues that any good "engineer" can handle and it may be related to faster speeds. In our case, the engineer learned news skills in successful attaching the cars in a new way. This set is not for young children. Before purchasing I called Lionel to inquire about the warranty for the product. Amazon is an approved seller. Our set was fulfilled by Amazon and not a 3rd party. Would recommend verifying that before ordering. Knowing I had Amazon's standard return policy and Lionel's warranty I had no reservations about ordering. The train is great. Its fun putting different types of Christmas cargo and characters in the open freight car.

Great Christmas train!
My little one could not have been happier and will be part of our Christmas decorating for years to come. Good quality aside from sounds could be a little louder, hard to hear when train is moving half speed or greater. Also wish the cars had metal couplers as a little cheap feel to them but still do the trick. Having an app available for a toy train seems a little weird compared to how they used to be, but guess there is an app for everything nowadays, and has some neat features. Very pleased overall.

Works well - Like the remote control
I have this setup for the grandkids - the 4 year old runs it quite well but the 2 year old needs a little practice. Great for grandkids.

Cute Train That Is Not The Usual Lionel Quality
You pretty much get what you expect from this train. It is a cute Thomas the Engine Christmas train. It is nice to see it running around a Christmas tree. I have several Lionchief Lionel Trains and this one works just as well. It runs at a nice even speed and runs pretty reliably. I also have a bunch of fasttrack switches and two 22.5 crossovers. The engine is able to navigate these without any problem. The main complaint is the quality. Lionel trains are generally pretty rugged, which is good for younger kids. I have had Lionel trains as far back as I can remember. When I was a kid, I would accidently run them off the table or something, but they kept on going. With the Thomas train, it looks like they tried to lower the price point by not following their normal standards. For example, the motor appears to be a lightweight motor. That concerns me a bit. A clearer example is the couplers. Lionel cars usually have a standard operating coupler. The Thomas cars have a fixed coupler. I have some other Lionel Thomas sets and the whole "Thomas" line uses the same kind of couplers. They cannot be automatically coupled. You must manually put the cars together. They also do not fit well. The car that holds the christmas trees sometimes comes uncoupled with the engine while running. I think it is because there is so much space in the grip of the coupler, it just pulls out sometimes. So you have to stop the train, and reconnect the car to the engine. While I still recommend the set overall, it is these little places where they reduced the quality that detract from the set. It would been a better experience if they simply made the engine and cars in their "usual" high quality. Yes, it may increase the price of the set, but it would be a better train experience and they would be sure to last for a very long time. I would ask Lionel to make the Thomas trains in the same style as all of their other trains and cars. I still recommend this set and I also recommend treating it nicely to make it last.

Great starter for kids
Great train feels sturdy. Easy transformer remote for kids to use. Feels heavy like the Lionel trains.

Instantly breakable
Lionel products geared toward kids used to be sturdy. This is cheap plastic all the way around. Dont allow children to play with this. My grandson dropped the engine on the track accidentally from a height of no more than 5". That caused a crack in the pilot directly under the front bumper. Also. Less than 10 minutes of run time caused the nut for the electric pickup to fall off. That meaning the engine no longer worked. I had to pull the wheelset to attach the assembly. Shame Lionel.... Shame! Will think twice about your products before i purchase anything again

The grandkids love it!
The kids love their new Thomas the Train and track. You can add more trains or track.
