Great price for new returned item ..
I purchased as "like new" item from Amazon warehouse. It was returned and needed a $2 part to repair... Thanks for the amazing 50%++ discount for a great Lionel product....

Stopped working after only two
Beautiful set, the sound and looks are amazing. The track is useless. I had to use my Bachman Track which worked flawlessly. One of the passenger cars stopped coupling after a few rounds of the track, I ordered a new coupler from Lionel three weeks ago which I never received. I only ran the train for about 15 minutes each time, it’s fairly noisy unless you turn the sound off. After a total of about two hours the engine completely locked up. I tried everything but to no avail. I put my old Bachmann engine on the track and it ran perfectly....so it wasn’t the track or the lack of electricity going to the engine. This set is not inexpensive, it cost me over $350.00, for that price it should run for many years without a problem. I may have got a lemon, but not willing to take a chance with another set. It was returned in the original box. I DO NOT RECOMMEND the Polar Express HO scale set by Lionel, unfortunately.

couplings not attaching
The couplings didn’t attached and it kept derailing. It’s a nice train but a little frustrating putting it on the tracks as you have to make sure that all wheels are aligned in the tracks. I hope the manufacturer sees the reviews as for the price they should do a little better in design it

For young adults or older.
Nice set, a little too pricey though.

Lionel brings back HO scale!
=== Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with the manufacturer and always write from my true experience. But please note that I received this item for free in exchange for my honest review. === Review begins: Since 1900, Lionel trains have been found under the tree at Christmas time for boys (and girls) and this continues through today. Lionel has been primarily O gauge trains along with S Gauge when they took over American Flyer. Their standard was O27 three rail, but they only did a small amount of HO trains and track. That has changed with Lione's line of Polar Express, Christmas Express and several other sets offered in HO with either phone Bluetooth App or the Handheld Bluetooth controller. The train set also has a DCC decoder located in the tender for adapting to an existing DCC setup. The track is called Magnalock track, set at code 83 and it EASILY snaps together without the use of joiners. If you wish, you can permanently mount the track and roadbed to a platform, and you can also use Code 83 joiners to help keep everything together. Now the next question is, does it HAVE to run only on it's own track? The answer is NO. It runs on any existing DC or DCC track, but if you use it on DCC track follow the instructions to program it into your DCC controller. I can sound the whistle, ring the bell, play special announcements and if used on DCC track do a gradual start and stop just like a prototype would do. Full programming and CV instructions are provided in the manual. So far all sounds good and I only found one problem, which applies to the track, but since I am going to run it on standard Code 100 track anyhow I am not knocking a star off for it. It does NOT come with a rerailer or rerailer/terminal track. Since it runs on Code 100 track as well as 8, it will fit into our existing layouts. 83 is what Lionel set the Magnalock track at. I set it up on one of our layouts, and listened to it chuff along as it gained speed, and the sound increased as the train went faster and faster. Our intent is to blend it in with our other layouts, and maybe have it run specials during the holiday season such as special passenger. The cars are all equipped with knuckle couplers for easy hook and drop. The passenger cars are internally lit and do NOT flicker or shut off when it comes to a stop. All in all I feel this is truly deserving of a 5 star rating. End of Review === Thank you for taking a minute out of your busy life to read my review. Cheap & Pointless
Do not buy this! It was very expensive and the quality is just better than cheap train sets. Just like others have said it derails often and is almost impossible to get the train and cars centered on the track. The track is very challenging to put together and it takes about 30 minutes of adjusting just to get the oval lined up without gaps. With any movement you have to adjust the track often. The train is 90% plastic. Buy a $50 dollar amazon train the quality is not that much different.

Choo-chooing Christmas
My boy and I LOVE this train. It was kind of touch-and-go setting it up initially, but even without really reading the manual, I was able to figure it out rather quickly--very intuitive. You have to take your time getting the trains on to the track to ensure the wheels are in contact and so on and there are times that the rather flimsy connectors between carriages will come off, but for the most part, a hoot! Perfect for around a christmas tree or just on its own, this is sure to enchant anyone. The remote control works with a dial to either make the train go forward or backwards and we took turns trying to see if we could stop the train on a designated point and I'm happy to say that the train is very responsive to the RC inputs. The RC is also makes the bell and whistle sounds go and they're so lifelike and a lot of fun when the train is really going. There's also a button to control "Christmas" announcements, which are quite loud--though there is a way to turn off all the sounds, if you want. The carriages light up from the inside throwing silhouettes of various Christmas-themed images. Detail on the engine, the tender and the carriages are top class though we derailed the train a few times and caused the carriages to separate, top from bottom but we were able to put them back together. Since it works with Bluetooth, it is possible to download an app and control the train from a mobile device. Neat, but I haven't tried it and I don't think I will when the remote control is so adequate. 5 fun-filled stars.
