Fun alternative for your little Lego lover
Having raised Lego lovers and now seeing their young cousins coming up behind them, also loving Legos, I was so excited to find these Lego Recreate Activity Cards. And the video my sister-in-law sent when my nephew opened this gift on his 9th birthday reinforced that this was a great find. PERFECT GIFT for your Lego lover if you want an alternative to a boxed set or to ignite his/her problem-solving skills.

Absolutely Love These
Bought this for my granddaughter who is 12 and loves legos. This was a just because gift. She sat right down and started putting it together. You cannot go wrong with Legos and a great price.

A must-have for every Lego family who wants to innovate and not just build
I remember growing up, Lego was more about creation. We'd have boxes of rectangles and squares, and we'd build things that were only limited by our imagination. Over the years, Lego started to become less about creating and more about building other peoples' designs. Don't get me wrong, I love the innovative designs of the Lego sets designed for grown-ups...sets like the piano and the Van Gogh painting are proudly displayed in our house. But I found myself one day falling into the trap of insisting that my daughter follow the instructions of a particular set, when she wanted to take the pieces and build her own things. Once I realized what I was doing, I was chagrined. Much like Will Ferrell's character in The Lego Movie, I remembered that Lego is first and foremost about innovation. We're in an era now where robots will be able to do everything EXCEPT innovate, so that's the most valuable thing we can teach our kids. Which is why I absolutely LOVE this set of cards. Like a writer can have "writer's block", I find that we have "builder's block" when it comes to building without instructions. These cards do a great job of jump-starting the creative process. There are yellow "Create" cards that give you build ideas based on a simple scenario, "Boost" cards that lay out some conditions you need to meet to make the build a little more challenging, and "Twist" cards that encourage creative storytelling. It comes with 25 assorted pieces; there aren't a lot of them, but that's part of what makes the game so fun—you and your family will stretch the limits of how to use these 25 pieces. Of course, most of your creations will be on the abstract side, but that's part of the fun (similar to how the funniest sketches in a game of Pictionary are usually the simplest or silliest). Of course, you can always augment the game with your own pieces if you want to challenge yourself to make more elaborate and realistic models. They say it's for ages 6+, but I think you'll get the most enjoyment starting with kids around 5th or 6th grade when they're able to start thinking more abstractly and creatively. But it would be fun to see what a 6 year old comes up with too. I hadn't seen products before from this particular licensee, but this product does a great job not just at representing the Lego brand, but bringing back some of the magic that we enjoyed from it as kids.

Do
Good idea for this set, however would have preferred to see pictures on the cards instead of all words.
