Very Accurate, and Notes About Paint
This is the first model I've ever built (essentially), but I felt I needed to review it anyway, and here is why. If you value detail and accuracy, this thing can't be beat. Trust me, I know. I 'commanded' (VCed) this exact same variant of the Stryker over seas. While this model is lacking the slat armor, blast protection and modifications we made ourselves, the attention to detail is almost frightening. For example, the hatches on the side and top have handles that turn to unlatch them. The model even has these handles turned to the proper position. That simply blew me away. The model comes with both the Mk 19 belt fed grenade launcher and the M2 .50 cal. You can chose which one you want to mount on the RWS, which is a cool feature. They also include a metal sheet that you can use to add details which are too thin to be injection molded in plastic, though I found the plastic alternatives to be fine in most cases. I appreciate that they left us the option because the water/fuel retainers were too difficult for me to fold accurately. I only have a few complaints. Some of the parts seemed to be complicated for the sake of being complicated. Perhaps this is normal for models, I don't know, but some of these things could have been molded directly onto one another and it would have looked just as good once completed. I also found the suspension system to be flimsy and unreliable, resulting in all 8 wheels being a bit turned one way or another (Note: Only the front four wheels are supposed to turn). Some of this can probably just be written off as my lack of experience with tiny fiddly plastic things though. All in all, I ended up with what I was looking for; something quiet to do for a few hours a day and a nice little model of my Stryker to sit on my desk and remind me of the 'good ol days.' The instructions were very clear (you could build this without knowing how to read I'd bet) and the parts needed very little cleanup. A note about paint: I basically just ignored the recommended paints and picked out a color myself. Strykers straight from the factory have a very specific color of flat green, and I found the Tamiya NATO Green to be just right, and plenty flat. I recommend picking up a flat light brown to do the bumper markings instead of messing with the decals, at least for the tan backing. I ended up using that same light brown to paint on some sand.

quality scale model
I always look forward to building scale models from this manufacturer, the attention to detail is amazing. The instructions are intuitive and easy to follow. The packaging is environmentally friendly, on the whole this is a great kit that any disarming modeller should buy.

Nice kit but not fond of the decals
This was my first Trumpeter model I’ve put together as most other models I’ve put together have been Tamiya. This model went together very well. The sprues were clearly marked and in good sequential order, making it easy to find each part on the sprue. There were clear directions given on each page of the direction sheet. The downfall came with the decals and MRE boxes. Unlike other kits that give you choices where the background and unit numbers are on the same decal, Trumpeter made it very complicated. You’d have to cut out the khaki background and apply it to your model. Next you’re given options with a series of numbers that have to be cut out individually and placed on the khaki background, making it nearly impossible to make spacing correct. That Is the biggest downfall of the kit. Next are the paper thin MRE boxes. I’ve put these boxes together on other kits that have thicker paper. The thin paper the MRE boxes are printed on make them more difficult to put together. Take a look at the photos I’ve provided and you’ll see you need to have a combination of decals to make up the unit and vehicle number.

Detailed but...
Excellent detail but a few misfits and some of the PE sheet is almost impossible - shame - otherwise 5 stars
