They should explain the sizes! A Medium fits an average 8-year-old.
This Loki costume is perfect! But it's frustrating that the seller doesn't explain the sizes AT ALL. I'll help as much as I can, based on my one data point. Thank goodness I managed to (more or less by chance) buy the correct size for my son. The Medium fit him perfectly. He's 8 going on 9, a little smaller than average for his age, about 4' 2" and about 61 pounds. The costume was cut generously enough, and was stretchy enough, that he might have been able to squeeze into a smaller size if necessary. The arms were a tad long (see photo), but no big deal. This costume is great because it's gorgeous, comfortable, affordable, and authentic to the character. The horns are a super fun touch. Who doesn't feel 10x more badass wearing Loki horns? (This is actually an adult size headpiece, so it was a bit loose on my son and tended to slip down, but that'd be easy to fix in 60 seconds with a safety pin in the elastic.) Note that this costume doesn't come with a scepter, a Tesseract, or a dagger - so do consider outfitting your young Loki with one or more of these weapons to heighten his/her powers. GLORIOUS PURPOSE!

We bought this for our six-year-old because he loves Loki and after Halloween, he has continued to use the costume on and off for playing around the house. Definitely money well spent if you have kids that love to play dress up.

We like this Loki costume but the headpiece is a little challenging. I have time to figure out a way to make it more stable

Perfect fit
This fit my 10 yr old perfectly and the quality is actually really good. He was very happy and it looked great on him for Halloween.
