Beautiful costume. Runs big
This product runs big. I got a large.for.an extremely tall 9 year old and it touched the ground. If your kid is short or average height you'll want to size down. It also.runs big in the waist and chest. I had to tie it in at the waist to make it look right and the chest was baggy. My kid is 58 inches tall 72 lbs. Chest 26. Waist 25. Hip 28. Medium would have been a bit short but a better fit for us.

My daughter loves it!
I bought this for my daughter who was having an Ancient Culture Day at school, where she had to dress up from an Ancient Culture, and she chose China. The dress fit perfectly and she loved it, plus it was a big hit among the other kids at school. The only thing that we don't like is the hair piece that comes with it. It is a little cheap, and flimsy and doesn't fit or stay in her hair very well. Overall we love it, and it would be perfect for any girl who is looking for a Asian Costume.

The costume is well made for a kid's costume. The seams are holding and the fabric is pretty. The hair piece it came with should just be left out. The edges are raw with pieces of thread and batting sticking out.

TERRIBLE FIT...but colors were pretty
NEGATIVES: Costume was a TERRIBLE fit; very odd proportions, uncomfortable, and unwearable without MAJOR alterations (inc. the hair ornament!) POSITIVES: Colors were pretty - Costume made it through Trick-or-Treating without falling apart THE DRESS: I bought this for my 6 yr old...what's to fit??? She's tall for her age so I usually have to buy clothes made for older girls. This usually means that some aspect of the item is a little large, like, the sleeves being too long. This was NOT the case with this costume. Far, far from it. Although the length was fine, my mother and I spent the week before Halloween splitting the seams along the arms -from armpit to below the elbow- and completely removing the elastic band from the waist area. We were forced to leave the arm seams open, only sewing the sides to prevent further fraying. To help camouflage the, now, gaping sleeves problem, we had her wear a light pink, long-sleeve shirt underneath the costume. It also helped that we waited until after sundown to begin our evening. THE HAIR ORNAMENT: See how this hair ornament sits atop the little girls head in the photo? We managed to get the same effect, but, first, we had to anchor the flower to the hair comb, and then do the same with the fan to the flower. A few quick stitches did the trick, but my mom and I were so frustrated at this point that it seemed a MAJOR bother. This costume was so "off" that we decided to make an entirely different costume ( based on the Bloobytack character from G Is for One Gzonk!: An Alpha-number-bet Book ) for her school's Halloween Parade. However, that ended up being a lot of fun to create! We felt the kimono was just too awkward for her to slip on by herself. In the end, she did look adorable, and she and her father -who wore the Kabuki Warrior Adult Costume - received loads of compliments. I mentioned in the beginning of this review that the colors of the kimono were very pretty, and that is the truth, but I'll pay the extra $10 and stick to costume stores with fitting rooms for our future costume needs.

IF I WANTED TO SEW MY OWN COSTUME I WOULD HAVE
First, I will say my daughter loved this costume. The material was ample and the colors nice. That being said, let me add that my daughter loved the costume after I finished sewing the entire thing up after receiving it. The pink trim that goes across the chest was not sewn on property and was flopping all over. The sleeves where it attaches to the hanging part had to be re-sewn to lay correctly. The hairpiece was useless and she decided not to even use it, which was unfortunate because that was the part she loved the most in the picture. The fan detached from the comb as it came out of the bag, and even gluing it wouldn't fix it. Given what I now know, I realized it would have been easier to see the costume and go to the fabric store and make it myself. Oh, yeah, if you want the pink waist piece to look at all normal, you have to sew the top and bottom to the dress so that it stays in the shape it's supposed to be. Also, don't forget to clip all those loose threads that they leave hanging from all the seams. Bottom line, sew your own. It will be faster and cheaper and you will have a better quality fabric to begin with.

This costume came super fast and the quality is there. Not like some bargain shop brands. This is a little thicker and built to last a few seasons.
