I was so excited when I saw this darling Cat Construction Junior Crew Fix-It Phillip Construction Vehicle. My great nephew loves to hammer and screw things. I thought it would be perfect for him when he visits. Alas, my heart broke when the tools would barely hold into position. Supposedly, they cling to the back wall by a magnet. Although I placed them into the little electric signs on the board, which a child would never see, they clung as long as the truck didn't move. Any movement caused them to fall off immediately. The truck is supposed to open up when you press the hat on the truck. It doesn't. It is easy to open, but it isn't doing what it says it will do. The sounds are really cute and will be exciting for a child, but they may get on their parents' nerves after a while. I was trying to get it out of the box and the sounds were going off while my adult son was asleep!! I was so afraid they were going to wake him, but a stick of dynamite wouldn't wake him, so I was fortunate. Speaking of getting the truck out of the box, that was one of the hardest things I've tried to remove from packaging in many years. It was held by two ties that were so tight that I couldn't get one side of my scissors under either of them. Only by prying and cutting from the very tip of the scissors was I able to finally cut them free. After that, there was a place where the cardboard was under some knobs. There were instructions on which way to turn them, but I have NO idea what they were for and I was afraid to put too much pressure on them. The directions were cut up during their removal. They, too, took a long time to navigate. I would estimate that I spent between an hour and an hour and 15 minutes just getting the truck of of the open box it arrived in!! I was glad I didn't wait until he got here or he would have become very impatient waiting all that time!! Once I removed the truck from the box, I discovered the on, off, display switch. I wish I had seen it during the removal stage!! While still in the box, you can press on the hat to hear the sound associated with it. That is the display setting. His eyebrows also move when you roll the truck. They are so cute. Once you open the truck, by hand, not the hat as it is supposed to do, the bolts make a sound, as do the saw and hammer on the nail. They are all cute sounds and any child will love them. Parents, I'm not so sure about!! As I said, I wanted to love this truck. Had the tools held in place and the hat actually opened the truck, I would easily have given it five starts. But, it just didn't warrant a perfect score as it isn't perfect. I do recommend this truck, just not as whole-heartedly as I wanted to.
