Great 1/48 P-51D from The New Airfix.
Excellent detail, accuracy, and quality. The instructions are thorough, and include painting guides to two famous P-51's. Parts are included for early and late tail sections as well as three different canopies. Decals are by Cartograph and are of the usual quality by that company. However, Amazon needs to stop shipping model kits in just the mailing envelope. My kit box was crunched on one side...but the model was fine. This model is better than the 25 year old Tamiya and is as good as the Meng. I do not know about the Eduard kit...

Phenomenal Kit from Airfix
Newer airfix kits has really stepped up their game with these 1/48 scale Aircrafts, especially this Mustang. Perfect decals, perfect fit, literally no issues. Would recommend to any intermediate model builder!

Best Vampire available in 1/48
The historic nature of the DH100 is well known with over 3,000 aircraft built in multiple versions. The F3 version here is an early operational model with 4 20mm cannons in the nose and the drop tanks are in three pieces. Needing 15 grams of nose weight makes a tight fit in the front and some can be added to the wing tanks to add forward weight. The pilot figure is ok but was replaced with a Tamiya RAF pilot with more detail. Now building the F5/9 version and the 1/32 model is on the way. A good item for the modeler with an interest in WWII jets and the history of jet technology.

Missing parts
Package was in good condition, came in padded bag. Looked great until i started going over parts, there are no canopy parts. According to instructions there should be two clear canopy parts. Of course i will contact Amazon to see if they can get them for me, otherwise i will send whole thing back. Another issue I guess i wasn't doing the math in my head because i didn't think about 1/48 being pretty small for a WW2 model fighter plane. It is a very small model with lots of tiny parts. Okay for skilled builder but probably difficult for younger builders. NOTE Amazon came through quickly, I received a new package with all the parts on Sunday that was just two days later. I just have to return the original shipment by October but can drop it off at a UPS store as is no repacking necessary. I have changed my star rating.

I Really Wanted to Like This Kit, but...
This was the first kit I've bought from Airfix, and it looked great when I unboxed the parts. The problem became apparent when I began to try to fit the pieces together, and found that many of the had to be completely re-engineered with putty and sandpaper to make them work together. The inner assembly was especially problematic, because the fuselage would not fit around it because it was too wide once assembled. After extensive grinding with a rotary tool, I was finally able to get the pieces to come together. There are also too many small pieces, like the tank cradles, that do not have a large enough contact point to be adequately glued together before final assembly. Had the same problem with the landing gear pieces. There were 165 pieces in the kit, but there were many pieces that were not referenced in the instructions at all. I believe these were options for different builds, but you'd be left to yor own devices to figure it out. I really wanted to like this kit, I am a fan of the P51 Mustang, but will probably look elsewhere for a better quality example.

The best of the Vampires
Well-designed and engineered, my kit had no problems at all. Everything fits nicely and the instructions are clear and precise. The best of all the Vampire kits available. Highly recommended. NOTE - At the time I write (13 Sep 2023) the photo on the Amazon site is of an F-86, not a Vampire. Don't be deceived, it's really a Vampire.

Beautiful Details & Inconsistent Fit
The Airfix A05138 P51-D Mustang kit provides an exceptionally detailed kit at 1:48 scale, with two livery options. Airfix's molds are uncommonly clean and detailed. The parts contained negligible excess sprue plastic and no casting defects. From an engineering perspective, the kit leaves a bit to be desired. Assembled correctly, the kit will require significant sanding and filler to make a seamless aircraft. Affixing the wing assembly to the fuselage was particularly challenging. This is a minor grumble for experienced modelers, though may be an impediment to progress for newcomers. I wouldn't recommend this as a "first model." The kit also contains options to assemble the landing gear extended or retracted, for inflight or ground displays. Overall, a worthwhile purchase with a few caveats.

Excellent Kit Above excellent delivery
The Airfix 1/48 Bristol Blenheim is an excellent kit of an important early WWII aircraft and the only one in 1/48 scale. Delivery was very rapid but the best part was that as it was raining at the time and I was out. The driver took the time and effort to place the package under cover away from where it would have been soaked on the doorstep. Well done.

Kit Airfix du P-51D Mustang au 1/48
Je viens de le recevoir et je ne l'ai pas encore monté mais après comparaison avec d'autres kits du même avion ce kit Airfix semble être le meilleur. Il est plus détaillé: Il y a même des pièces séparées pour représenter les entrées d'air filtrées sur les coté du capot moteur en bas. Il y a aussi un pilote. Il y a 2 types de réservoir supplémentaires et les volets et les gouvernes sont séparés La notice de montage est bien faite et en couleur et les décalcs sont bien nets. Seule la gravure des tôles du fuselage est un peu trop marquée à mon gout .

今一歩で惜しい出来
エデュアルドに続いてエアフィックスからも1/48スケールの初期D型が登場しましたが、個人的にはエデュアルドに先手を打つ為にも、後期D型よりこちらを先に出すべきだったと思います。 エデュアルドは、ドーサルフィン無しの初期D型の胴体を丸ごと新規に起こしていましたが、エアフィックスは胴体一部のパーツ差し換えでの再現です。 差分パーツのフィッティングは問題なく、ドーサルフィンのない初期D型のプロポーションを問題なく再現していますが、初期D型のもうひとつの特徴である、羽布張りのエレベーター(昇降舵)の再現が無視されているのがとても残念です。 先発のエデュアルドやタミヤとドイツレベルの1/32でもきちんと再現していたので、ここは拘って欲しかったです。 修正方法のひとつとしては、エデュアルドの後期D型キットで余る、初期D型用のエレベーターを移植する事ですが、エアフィックスとエデュアルドのキットを両方揃えるのは一部のマニアくらいだと思うので、一般的な手段とは言えないでしょう。 ちなみに私はエデュアルドのパーツを移植して修正しましたが、取り付けピンを切り取っただけで、ほぼストレートに使用できました。 それ以外の出来は良く、胴体のラジエーター内部は完成したらほとんど見えませんが、このスケールでは最も実機の構造を忠実に再現していると思います。 筋彫りは深く太めなので批判的な意見もあるみたいですが、塗装で簡単に埋まらない為の配慮だと言われています。 タイヤはトレッドパターンの違いで二種類付属しますが、P-51のタイヤのトレッドパターンは十種類近く存在するので、ここまで忠実に再現しようとすると大変ですし、左右でトレッドパターンの違うタイヤを履いている機体も複数確認できます。 アクセサリーは75ガロン増槽と108ガロン強化紙製増槽、500ポンド爆弾が付属します。 付属するマーキングは、トーマス・クリスチャン大佐機の「LOUⅣ」と、ジョージ・プレディ少佐機の「クライプス オマィティ三世」の二種で、どちらも有名な機体です。 クリスチャン大佐機の「LOUⅣ」は、1944年7月11日に広報用に撮影された、カラーとモノクロ写真が残っていますが、それから間もない8月12日に対空砲火で撃墜されて、クリスチャン大佐も戦死しています。 プレディ少佐は26機を撃墜した、P-51のパイロットとしてはトップエースですが、1944年12月24日に味方の対空砲火の誤射で撃墜されて戦死しています。 デカールは最近のエアフィックス・スタンダードとも言える上質なカルトグラフ製で、インベイジョンストライプのデカールも入っています。 エレベーターの再現が唯一残念ですが、作ってみるとエデュアルドなどの他社キットにない魅力を感じたので、お薦めしたいキットです。

本命の爆撃機型
ブレニムは第二次大戦のイギリス空軍爆撃機としては比較的メジャーな筈なのに何故かキットには恵まれす、特に1/48スケールではレジンや簡易インジェクション等のガレージキットでしか製品化されていませんでした。 故に本製品でようやくまともなインジェクションキットとして製品化されたのは感慨深いものがあります。 最初は何故か派生型の夜戦仕様からのリリースでやきもきさせられましたが、ようやく本命の爆撃機型がリリースされてひと安心です。 1/72同様Mk.Ⅳのリリースも是非期待したいですね。
