Perfect Doll, Broken Glasses
Perfect size doll and very cute. Main complaint, like others, is that before even opening the packaging the glasses were already broken… The arm was snapped off and I thought I could put it back on, but the plastic part where the arm connects was split in half and then fell off completely when taken out of the box. Definitely wish they could send a replacement for that since it was one of the main reasons I bought the doll. My daughter is going through an obsessed with sunglasses phase since she just learned how to use them. The doll kind of flops around because of the material inside it’s belly/torso, but that makes it a softer doll for younger children, able to wash easier, and give is more weight so it feels more life like. My daughter loves it so far. Details are much more lifelike than other dolls, even my 16 month old noticed- especially with the eyes and the detail for the hair. Overall, I recommend and will buy this brand again, just bummed about the glasses and no option on Amazon store or Adora site to just buy the glasses.

The smell is UNBEARABLE
The smell was so awful I had to return it. That paired with the fact the swim shorts aren't removable and the body is made of foam beans. Definitely returning.

Strong scent
This doll is pretty small and doesn't quite look as I thought but she's cute & at a great price. The fact I can throw her in washer was pretty much selling point. The scent is extremely strong.

Adora vs Corolle bath babies
UPDATE after a year: Piper isn’t showing any wear. My kids haven’t chosen to take her to the beach, lake, or pool, but she’s participated in many baths. Obviously the sunglasses are long gone, and the hat is only worn occasionally, but Piper herself is in great shape, no fading or pilling. It’s still so strange to see her hanging by her neck….. UPDATE after a week: after hanging Piper up to dry after water play, I just wanted to point out that this doll having a neck string to hang dry makes it look like the doll has been actually hung. I don’t have personal experience with a loved one passing this way, but it is still pretty jarring to walk in to see them hanging by their necks. I’m reasonably handy but it doesn’t make sense to attach a loop elsewhere or water would drain to the head, sit there, and get moldy. I can’t think of another design but this one is unsettling, particularly on Piper. ORIGINAL REVIEW I purchased this Piper doll at a significant discount versus the other two options, and a similar style doll from Corolle that’s nearly full price, about three times that of Piper currently. Normally they’re roughly the same price. I bought them in similar skin tones to be the best comparison. This doll’s shorts are built onto her body (removable top that is polyester but not quite the “swim” fabric it’s advertised to be) where the Corolle is able to get fully undressed. I feel like that functionality is a point for Corolle as it’s more realistic for bathtime play. The Corolle feels like board short fabric and a bit better quality. The Piper Adora doll smells strongly of baby powder. I’m sensitive to smells but I think this will still be okay; it’s not a sharp smell but I’d still prefer unscented. The similar Corolle is vanilla scented - preferable over baby powder but I still don’t get why fragrance was added. The Corolle came with a whale toy for the doll. The Adora came with sunglasses that broke even as I (gently) tried to remove them from the packaging. Reviews look like this is common. I love that the Adora Piper can suck her thumb (maybe take a bottle?) and that her cheeks get rosy and freckled in the sun (I haven’t tested this claim but will update). You do really have to jam her thumb in there; I’m not sure a kid could do it. The Corolle doesn’t do any of that, but has more detailed instructions than the Adora. They’re both claiming to be good for beach/lake, bath, and pool play, and are machine washable. They both have neck straps to hang dry. They’re a similar size, and both are floppy where they won’t sit up on their own. Feedback I received from others was overwhelmingly more prevalent for the Corolle, citing up to a decade of love and play with many kids. (Seems Adora just wasn’t as common and I ran into no complaints from those I asked.) Despite additional features, significant cost differences, and the initial unboxing appeal of the Adora Piper face, the Corolle just feels nicer and there’s something about her face I just prefer. Maybe her features are more delicate. I will likely keep both at this price point but if I had to pick, I think I’d pass on this one.
